Pros and cons of living in a lawless land
June 18th is my birthday and this year I celebrated in great style: a fresh article published on AVN that talks about something that happens, everybody sees it , but doesn’t often get brought up.
We have all noticed that the source of ideas are not stated and those who came up with them do not get quoted. What’s more, the partnerships are made upon sponsorships and not because of values in common. Then, this means that plagiarism is openly consented to. What’s more, this is the foundation of the neutral: to nullify the other in order to stand out.
At first, it might seem like a great advantage to operate in a market segment that does not demand to cite any source. Nevertheless, it is not possible to know what side one is on just because of a comercial deal. By citing the source, it is possible to know why something makes sense or not, and where this idea came from.
In business, it is also commonplace for individuals to try to be pleasant and exhibit neutral behavior in order to leave every single door open, allowing one to be desirable to these businesses in the future. However, it is interesting to reflect on this: is it really necessary to leave every single door open? Wouldn’t it make more sense to try finding long term partners, based on common interests and values?
In order to find partnerships based on common values it is necessary taking sides. Let's keep in mind if a castle is made of sand it will crumble upon the first wave!
